There are many reasons why people convert their attic spaces but here are the main four reasons that our clients have in our experience.
1. Soaring Property Prices Means Cash in The Attic
Property prices continue to rise all over the UK but especially in London. In the capital a loft conversion can add up to 25 % on average to the re sale price of a property. For example converting a house from a three bedroom to a 4 bedroom house can obviously be a great investment for the future if you are planning to resell your home.
It is definitely much cheaper in most cases to convert your existing property than go through the often long process of finding a bigger property with another room.
2. Families Needing More Space
Many couples start off with a 2 bedroom house only to find that after a second child they are bumping into each other too much, and need more space. It’s at this point that they consider converting their loft if they have one.
Not only that but it is now taking longer for older children to leave the family nest. It’s been reported by the Office for National Statistics in 2014 that the number of 20-34 year olds living with their parents is at it’s highest for over 20 years.
It’s now far more common for children to live with their parents while they save a deposit for their own place. Rents in the capital have soared which puts more pressure on young people trying to afford their own place to live when they are building their work career for the first time.
Extending not moving is often the best choice and a loft space can become a new bedroom for a child, or parents.
Sometimes its the grandparents who move in with their children and a loft conversion with an en-suite is the right solution to create and extra room.
3. More people are choosing to work from home
We have created offices, music studios and design workshops in London lofts.
Now that much work can be done online, more companies are allowing their employees to work remotely from home at least some of their time, which save themselves a lot of commuting. Others have a small business which they run from home.
The Office for National Statistics reported in 2014 that 13.9% of workers in the UK work from home. That is a whopping 4.2 million people.
We predict that this will be a growing trend over the next few years.
4. Loft Living Lifestyle
If you are someone who wants to create a space for pure escapism – a loft conversion may be just the ticket.
Many people desire a place they can go to completely unwind, whether its a games room, a reading room, a home cinema, a huge walk in wardrobe and dressing up room, or maybe even a home spa.
Let your imagination run wild and we can help you create your dream loft space.
